Description: These data represent a compilation of readily available electronic water quality information, put together by the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (a research division of New Mexico Tech). Compiled groundwater quality data provided here are from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED), and the Aquifer Mapping Program’s in-house database (AMD) at the New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources (NMBGMR). The USGS dataset only includes what is available on the National Water Information System (NWIS) database. The NMED dataset was acquired via an Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) request in August 2015; most of these data are available on the Drinking Water Watch (DWW) website. The NMBGMR database includes project data, as well as recently digitized historical data processed as part of this grant as of April 2016. All three datasets were compiled in a database view that links to the ArcGIS web map and data service. The database view brings together the compilation effort, joining NMBGMR AMD, with USGS NWIS, and NMED DWW. Available data layers include Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Chloride (Cl), Sulfate (SO4), Arsenic (As), Uranium (U), Fluoride (F), Calcium (Ca), Sodium (Na), Magnesium (Mg) and Bicarbonate (HCO3) in mg/L, as well as Specific Conductivity in uS/cm. These data are intended to help inform generalized, statewide water quality questions, and indicate where data may be available. Specifically, these data are intended for informational purposes related to protection of sources of water and planning purposes in that task. The data provided are not intended for legal, surveying or engineering purposes. Please use all data with caution and awareness of their limitations. There are locations with duplicate data or conflicting data at the same locations that have not been resolved. Data displayed here are not dynamically updated (as of June 2016), and locations may not be accurate. Well depths may not be accurate or may have changed, this is especially true for data derived from historical publications (noted in data source fields). Data providers (NMED, NMBGMR, or USGS) shall not be liable for any activity involving these data. For more information on this project contact Stacy Timmons, stacy.timmons@nmt.edu or Cathryn Pokorny,kitty.pokorny@nmt.edu.
